I've got some catching up to do! Mary and I were on the road for three weeks beginning the last week of August and took another week to recover from traveling. We stayed at the Blue Swallow Motel in Tucumcari August 24, 2015 on our first night on the road. The Blue Swallow has been extensively renovated in recent years and provides a nostalgic look into the past of motor vacations. Small but comfortable rooms are satisfactory for a night on the road. Only a few colorful neon signs remain along old Route 66 in Tucumcari and the Blue Swallow is the most impressive of them.
One of the managers of the motel recommended the Pow Wow Restaurant & Lounge for dinner. Great recommendation, Mary loved the Chile Rellanos and I enjoyed the Carne Abadabo. Next morning we headed to Kix on 66 before hitting the road again.
Before the trip I was hoping for clear skies for a chance to head south of town to catch some dark skies for a try at the Milky Way. The weather didn't cooperate and provided us cloud cover that evening and clouds an occasional rain through New Mexico and Arizona on the 25th.
